What is an alpaca?

The alpaca is a domesticated South American hoofed mammal with long, soft, silky fleece. Alpaca is one of nature’s luxury fibers. Shorn yearly from the gentle Peruvian ad Bolivian alpaca, the fiber possesses a smooth, non-irritating feel and is lighter, warmer, and less expensive than cashmere. At the same time, it is stronger and substantially more durable than wool and far more exquisite than cotton. Alpaca products are also free from lanolin and dander, making them hypoallergenic. Those who previously avoided wearing wool scarves will be quite comfortable in alpaca – it is a truly friendly fiber.

These alpaca/acrylic scarves are machine made and are ideal during thise crisp fall evenings and during the winter months that follow.
